An inpirational message (28 Feb 2008)

from a father to his children about life. I was sent this link from a friend and it was so powerful that I wanted to share it. It really is a beautiful and very moving, take a look here

When I heard Randy talking about his football coach really pushing, it made me think about my business coach who is really pushing me at the moment and this made me realise that someone only pushes you if they care enough- or else as Randy says, when people stop pushing it means they have given up on you. So I realised how lucky I am to have a coach to keep pushing me as he really believes in me and what I want for my life.

I also loved what he said about the value of people versus things. It is an important lesson to learn and how cool is he to empty a can of soda on the back seat of his car. Wow- really inspiring!

The importance of having fun- well this one I totally follow and thanks to Randy, it has given me a kick up the arse to look at how I lead my life and as he says the dreams will come to you. Thanks Randy for the amazing lesson. What a man!

What do you want to do before you die? (9 Oct 2007)

Wow I just finished reading this inspirational book, ‘Before I die’ by Jenny Downham, about a 16 year old girl who is dying of Leukaemia. There is nothing quite like death to make you want to live. Here is what is written on the cover, which moved me to buy it immediately………..

‘It’s OK if you’re afraid,’ Zoey says.

‘It’s not.’

‘Of course it is. Whatever you feel is fine.’

‘Imagine it, Zoey - being terrified all the time.’

‘I can’

But she can’t. How can she possibly, when she has her whole life left? I hide under my hat again, just for a bit, because I am going to miss breathing. And talking. And windows. I am going to miss cake. And fish. I like fish. I like their little mouths going, open, shut, open.

And where I’m going, you can’t take anything with you.

If you were moved too, you can pick up your copy here- www.rbooks.co.uk

In the book,.....

....when she realises her time is running out and she writes a list of what she wants to do before she dies. And her friend commits to making her do it. She wants to be in love, to take drugs, to be famous, to say yes for a day........ The book inspired me to do my list of things to do before I die. Here’s mine today, tomorrow may be different.

To be truly happy
Travel often and visit all the amazing places I want
Be in love and loved and experience an inspiring, fulfilling and intimate relationship
To be a mum
To have touched people’s lives in a positive way and my being here made the world a better place.
Ride a horse again
Speak another language
Dance more
Laugh hard often
Appreciate today
Say yes more
Grow my own vegetables
Be free to say what I want when I want

What would be on yours? Why not take a moment to do it, say 5 – 10 things………
I would love to hear your list, why not drop me a line?  And let me know what you want to commit to and I will hold you to it.

Changing your perspective (28 Sep 2007)

I got this story in an email and it got me thinking, how often in life we look at obstacles and challenges as a barrier to what we want in life. When you read this story is shows us that maybe the barriers are actually helping us to get to where we are going. Well have a read and let me know what barrier you have in your way at the moment and if you change your perspective and saw it as a step towards where you wanted to go-would that be more helpful?

A Donkey in the Well

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey. He invited all his neighbours to come over and help him. They each grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well.

At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement, he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer looked down the well, and was astonished at what he saw. As every shovel of dirt hit his back, the donkey did something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.

Pretty soon, everyone was amazed, as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off.

The Moral:

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping-stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up!

Think of a situation you are facing now. Why not try to change your perspective from, ‘it is not helping you’ to ‘it is helping you’ move closer to where you want to be. Does that help at all? Let me know you thoughts. Changing your perspective is all within your power, bet you forgot how powerful you really, well just for a moment.

Happy Weekend!

P.S I got sent this story in an email and it was not credited to anyone- so thank you to whoever created this.

Radio show (3 Sep 2007)

I was going to be interviewed in April on the radio, so beforehand I started to visualise what I wanted to get out of it. I visualised the end result that I wanted - 'a regular coaching slot, say once a month'. I did the show and afterwards I was racking my brains looking for a clever angle to get back in touch with the radio station. Whilst coming up with my cunning plan, an idea that they wouldn't be able to resist, the phone rang and it was the producer of the show. She asked me if I wanted to come in once a month for a regular coaching slot. I could have fallen off my chair. Very cool, eh!  I love playing with visualisation if for no other reason as it makes me clear what I want. If I get the result I wanted then that is an added bonus. On the show last month we did the Wheel of Life and I thought it might be fun to let you have a go at doing your wheel of life along with the show. It is such a clever exercise to show where you happy in your life and easily highlights any areas that need attention. Have fun and let me know how you get on...........

Long Weekend Adventure (25 Jul 2007)

We held our first Long Weekend in the mountains this month and it was such a wonderful experience for all. I loved it. All the life coaching sessions were held outside in nature, wow it was so powerful._7089722_2 The morning life coaching session were held around the pool- here is a shot of us in action. We then walked down to the river to digest the morning life coaching session, followed by a swim in the river to cool off before our picnic lunch.

We were then blindfolded and told to find our way by using our senses, by tuning in to the wind and feeling the ground beneath you. Such a great way to heighten your awareness.

_7079700Here is what on adventurer said about her time on the weekend....

'From the moment we pulled up in the car and I looked out across the mountain range I knew I was going to have a good time. I arrived feeling overwhelmed by my busy life and needed some time to help to re- connect to myself. I left feeling happy, well- fed, tanned and good about myself and my new decisions.'

The next one is in October, hope you can come and drop me a line for some more details at susan@thecoachinglifecompany.com.

Visualisation- does it work? (15 Jun 2007)

There is so much talk these days about visualisation, with the release of the film The Secret that I am curious does it actually work? Well as with anything in life, if you believe it then of course it can be true. And that of course is my belief. Whilst doing yoga this week, I was reminded of the first time I visualised. I had been struggling with my headstand for some time. It was all wobbly and shaky and I simply found it impossible to stay up for any length of time. Until I read this Indian book on Yoga and it talked about visualising your headstand before doing it. So the next morning, whilst in the child pose before going up into my headstand. I visualised myself, as the book suggested, as a mountain. Tall and strong with a steady unshakable base. Then I went up into my headstand and was still for the first time ever and it  felt effortless. This was a simple example for me to demonstrate how your thought, visualisation, can change matter, the physical- for me visualisation does work. This was the start of many examples for me. But I would love to hear from you, your experiences of visualisation, as to whether or not, you believe it works?
